History

The Archaeological Museum of India in Badami is one of the city's main attractions. The museum fascinates you not only with its natural splendor but also with its sculptures, rock monuments, and cave temples. It consists of 4 galleries. The first two are an open gallery displaying the idols and statues of Lord Shiva and Vishnu in various forms, a sculpture by Sir Ganesha, and several scenes narrated by Bhagavad Gita. There are several sculptures and crafts from the Rashtrakuta and Chalukya dynasties (550-950 AD) and the Middle Ages (8th-18th centuries AD). Surrounded by a beautiful porch, the final gallery displays a pair of fascinating Dwara Palaka(guards) figures and inscriptions. Visitors will visit some of the other nearby attractions, such as the Badami Cave Temple, Agastya Tirsatank, the Butanata Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the Bana Shankari Temple.
