History
The Gurgaon area originally belonged to the Kingdom of Kuru. The first inhabitants of the area were Hindus ruled by the Ahir clan. The Yadu tribe is part of this clan, and today their descendants often have the surname Yadav. In Mahabharata, Gurugram is described as the village of Guru Dronacharya, who was the Guru of Kauravas and Pandavas. By the beginning of the Vth century, the city was annexed by the Peacock Empire as part of the first expansion of the kingdom of Chandragupta Maurya.
Gurugram may be the same as the city of Gudapura mentioned in the 12th century Prithviraja Vijaya text. According to the narrative, Nagarjuna, King Prithviraj Chauhan of Chahamana's cousin, rebelled against the king and took over the city. Prithviraj suppressed the rebellion and retaken the city. Gurugram an agriculture-based region has a culture as old as Vedic Times.
Facts & Culture

The Gurgaonites organize several fairs and events and celebrate almost all the festivals with great fervor.
