History
Alwar is one of Rajasthan's historic attractions, with outstanding samples of ancient periods illustrating the country's rich and royal past. The city is regarded as one of India's oldest, having existed since 1000 A.D. and been a component of the Matsya empire. The city of Alwar is claimed to have been built by Maharaja Jai Singh of Amer, and it was originally named Alpur until changing its name to Alwar. Following that, Maharaja Kakil governed the city for the first time in the 11th century. The Marathas and Jats also dominated Alwar, but a valiant Kachwaha monarch named Pratap Singh seized control of the city and ruled for many years, making it a significant site in Rajasthan. Later, Bakhtawar Singh was defeated and the East India Company made a new promise to him, barring him from any form of political intervention with other governments without British approval. Initially, the Kin of Amer governed the city in the 11th century, and he expanded his empire to encompass the city of Alwar in Rajasthan. Later, the city was governed by several Rajput sub-clans.
