History

The history of the city dates back to the 12th century AD. The Hatha chief, Raodwa, invaded this region and founded Bundi and Hadoti. Later, during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir in the early 17th century, Kota has since become a symbol of the courage and culture of the Rajput people. Hadoti is the name of the southeastern region of Rajasthan, which includes the cities of Bundi, Baran, Jarawal, and Kota. It is a historical relic dating back several centuries. Prehistoric caves, wall paintings, castles, and the great Chambal river that flows from Vindyas can be found throughout the region. Jay Singh of Bundi built the first fortress wall or "Garh" (fortress). Rao Maduo Singh, the second son of Rao Ratan of Bundi, was appointed ruler by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1631 and Kota's independence became a reality. Kota quickly left her home state, growing bigger, richer, and more powerful. He possessed a "mansab" of 5,000 people and was the first in his family to be given the title of Maharao.
