History

The name Panchkula is derived from "panch" and "kula". The word "panch" means five, and the word "kula" means channel. This place distributes water through 5 irrigation channels and draws water from the GhaggarHakra River. The ruler of this place built these canals. The earliest residents of this place were the people of the Stone Age, which can be seen from the Paleolithic evidence excavated in this place. This place has also been used by Pandavas of Mahabharata for some time. The place was formerly called Panchpura but later the name changed to Pinjore. Panchkula was also ruled by the famous Mughal dynasty and the powerful Chauhans. The city has some exquisite buildings scattered all over the area. The city was planned and developed by Haryana in the 1970s.

Panchkula is a well-planned city in Haryana, adjacent to the Chandigarh United Territory. It is part of the tri-city of Chandigarh. In addition to Panchkula and Chandigarh, it also includes Mohali. There are also several beautiful places in the Panchkula district. The only hill station Morni Hill is a famous place among the visitors. This mountain is part of Shivalik Mountain and is dotted with numerous temples at the foot hill. Pinjore Gardens is famous for its impressive Mughal gardens. It is also called Yadavindra Garden. Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh is a 30-minute drive from Panchkula. Natural sources are available at Chaki Mod. Ride the cable car on the timber trail to enjoy panoramic views of Panchkula and Chandigarh. It takes tourists to the top of the mountain where the resort is located. It hosts various leisure activities. Gurudwara Nada Sahib is located on the Ghagra River. It is named after Nada Shah who served Guru Govind Singh. Mansa Devi Temple is a Hindu pilgrimage site, 8 kilometers from Chandigarh. The cactus garden here is the largest in Asia with a  large number of endangered species. Ramgarh Fort ruled by the Chandel rulers and built 360 years ago is an architectural marvel here.
