History

The district of Panipat will always have a significant place in the rich history of India. It is believed that at the time of the Mahabharata, Pandavas demanded five villages from Duryodhana, out of which 'Panipat' was one. Panipat has also been a witness to three major battles which changed India's history forever. According to the legend, Panipat was one of the five cities (prasthas) founded by the Pandava brothers during the times of the Mahabharata; its historic name being Panduprastha. Panipat was the scene of three pivotal battles in Indian history. Panipat is famous in the country for being the 'City of Weavers' and has earned itself a significant place globally for 'handloom production'. Panipat the city of weavers is a culturally rich city with countless customs and folk arts. This acronym was created for the city, mainly because of the large number of handlooms weaving cotton sheets, sheets, blankets, cushions, and curtains to show their art. These handicrafts from Panipat are its identity at home and abroad. The traditions of the area can be traced back to the Vedic era, and today people enjoy it enthusiastically in the form of various festivals and dances. The diversity of races that coexist in this state is also reflected in its art, making them more colorful and lively. Each of their celebrations is marked by folk dance, music, and the unparalleled spirit of the locals. The common festival celebrated in Panipat is Lohri, which is mainly celebrated in Punjab and Haryana on January 13th. Another festival in this city is Gangaur, which is celebrated in March/April. This is a festival that provides a special place for women. From young girls to married ladies, they participate enthusiastically.
