History

It was founded in 1890 by a group of 50 washers during British control. In terms of appearance and operation, Dhobi Ghat has remained mostly untouched. The neighborhood is now home to around 700 washer families who thrash clothing every day on their separate stones. While some dhobis use modern mechanical washing and drying equipment, the majority of them still wash their clothing by hand on platforms and troughs constructed during the British rule.Dhobi Ghat Mumbai tourism is extremely renowned among photographers for taking pictures of the colorful clotheslines. You may photograph rows of colorful garments drying in the sun, a sleek display of monochromatic linens from hospitals and hotels, and smiling faces behind the water splashes. With patience, photographers may also capture the movement of people and their belongings as they enter and exit the building through their bicycles and handcarts.
