History

At the end of Chhatrapati Shivaji Marg in South Mumbai, the Gateway of India is situated on the waterfront overlooking the Arabian Sea. The monument, which is the biggest tourist destination in the city, has also been referred to as the Taj Mahal of Mumbai. In essence, the Gateway to India is an archway. The triumphal arch style, which is widespread in the main cities of the majority of Commonwealth nations, is the arch type in question. Scottish architect George Wittet created the complete entryway. The building is 26 metres tall and has four smaller turrets flanking a central dome that is 15 metres wide. It is said that the pattern is Indo-Saracenic. This is a distinctive fusion of Victorian-era British architectural forms like Neo-Classical and Gothic Revival with traditional Indian and Muslim architecture.
