History

Architecturally, it consists of a huge subterranean vault with one or more chambers that have dome-shaped roofs, all of which are topped by a mound of soil that resembles a hemispherical mound. There is a tiny open pavilion chow-chali at the summit of the mound. The whole maidan is enclosed by an octagonal dwarf wall. The first king Sukapha was buried in Charaideo, where the Ahoms chose to bury their deceased family members. According to historical records, monarchs' wives, valets, pets, and a significant amount of goods were interred alongside them.Recent Maidam No. 2 excavations have revealed a colossal brick-built maidam edifice that was previously buried in enormous piles of soil. The excavating process reveals an octagonal enclosing wall. From the maidan's interior chamber, fragments of ivory and wooden artifacts have been found.
