History

The city was founded in 1591 by the ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, Muhammad Kully Qutb shah. It is said that when the moon is in Leo, Jupiter is in his home, and all celestial bodies are in vantage points, he laid the foundation for the new city. This city was formerly known as Golconda. When Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah fell in love with a prostitute named Bhagmati, he named her Bhagyanagar. Soon after the marriage, Bagmati changed its name to Hyder Mahal, so the name of the city was changed to Hyderabad, namely Hyder City. It was during this period that the city flourished in commerce and trade, but was soon occupied by Aurangzeb and ruled by its newly appointed Prime Minister, Asaf Jah. When the Mughal dynasty ended, Assaf Ja became the ruler. In 1798, the second ruler Assafjahi signed a treaty with the British ruler Nizam II to keep the British army close. They decided to stay near Lake Hussein Sagar and established a new city called Secunderabad, which is a twin city Hyderabad. It is named after Nizam Sikander Jah.
