History

The Birla Industrial and Technical Museum takes you back to the days when the original building was owned by Tagore and Meera Devi. His fourth descendant of Rabindranath Tagore infused this formation with a lot of youthful energy. Later, in 1919, the estate was auctioned by Surendranath his Tagore to his G.D. Birla, who converted the building into Birla Park. The house was then redesigned and recreated by hired planners N. Guin & Co. Nonetheless, it remained a unique place, and was frequented by burgeoning characters such as Pandit Mohan Malaviya and Mahatma Gandhi. In 1956, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal build science exhibition halls across the country to help promote innovation and industry.
