The spelling of Ghoom is Ghum. It is roughly 6 kilometres from Darjeeling. It is also the district of Darjeeling's highest peak. The Gelukpa is the owner of the Ghoom Monastery in Darjeeling. The tall statue of Maitreya Buddha is the most well-known piece at this monastery. Around the year 1800, Mongolian monks constructed it. It has been erected for about two centuries. The monastery's interiors and exteriors will make you shudder since they exude a mystic aura.Being the first of its type in Darjeeling, the Old Ghoom Monastery is well-known. In the monastery's main hall, it is stable. Clay that had travelled all the way from Tibet to Darjeeling was used to construct the Maitreya Buddha statue. There are two large candles that are continuously burning in front of the Buddha throughout the whole year. This statue was built and placed during the reign of Lama Domo Geshe Rinpoche, the second abbot of the Old Ghoom Monastery.
