History
Located at an altitude of about 1,981 meters above sea level in the Champawat district, Abbott Mount is a picturesque settlement. British businessman John Harold Abbott was so fascinated by the tranquility of the place that he developed it into a European settlement. In 1991, he built a collection of 13 cottages in a five-acre forest. The place was later named after him. With a variety of colors of nature, you can find Himalayan birds, colorful butterflies, and bright red bran (or rhododendron) flowers, especially in the summer. At this beautiful mountain station, you can enjoy nature walks, trekking, fishing, and photography. Abbott Mount offers stunning views of the Himalayas on the eastern side of Kumaon Hills. There is also an eerie house where scientists conducted strange experiments on locals who are said to be haunted in one of the rooms of the house. This mountain station is a tranquil scenic place for relaxation and rejuvenation away from the hustle and bustle of cities. The place offers great options for trekking, bird watching, and photography.
