The fort is at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers and is wedge-shaped. Therefore, Prayagraj Fort was built for both military and commercial strategic purposes. Prayagraj Fortress is the largest fortress built by Akbar. The fortress has three galleries lined with tall towers. The fortress consisted of 93 large apartments, hundreds of rooms, and other buildings. The largest building built by Akbar is Fort Allahabad. Its beauty, space, and ruggedness are worth a look. It was comparable to Agra Fort in its design, elegance, and craftsmanship. Over time, many original parts such as roofs and interiors have suffered serious losses and deterioration. Another important historical aspect of Allahabad Fort is that it houses one of the Ashokan pillars. The Pillars of Ashoka, engraved with a homage to Samudragupta, is opposite the main entrance to the fortress.
