History

Only one kilometer from Jalandhar's train station lies the world-famous Devi Talab Temple. More than 200 years have passed since it was built, according to some estimates. Durga temple is one of the 51 Shakthi pithas in India and is dedicated to Goddess Durga. Bishan Bhairav is the name given to the Shiva idol housed within this temple. The Devi Talab Temple has just undergone a major renovation, including a number of significant improvements to the original building. In addition, a new temple has been built on the temple grounds. Even a scale replica of the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage was built only a short time ago.Goddess Kali's original temple may be seen next to the Devi Talab Mandir. The Hindus revere an ancient tank at the temple, making it a popular tourist site. The temple resembles the Amarnath Cave temple in Jammu and Kashmir in its architecture.Apparently, the puranas tell that when her father Daksha insulted her husband Lord Shiva, Maa Sati set herself on fire and died. Sati's death infuriated Lord Shiva, so he unleashed his frightening third eye and launched on an exhilarating tandava over the landscape. To chop up Sati with his all-powerful discus, Lord Vishnu sent his discus, the Sudarshan Chakra, to prevent the Lord from destroying the cosmos out of fury. Every area where Maa Sati's corpse was buried became a centre of devotion for worshippers of the Goddess throughout the years that followed. Devotees of the Goddess, known as Shaktas, revere each of these places as a Shakti Peetha. The Devi Talab Mandir is one of the subcontinent's 51 most important Shakti Peethas. The temple is located where Maa Sati blessed her right breast.
