History

Shangnyu Village is located in the district of Mon in Nagaland and is home to the Konyak Naga tribe and reflects the colorful culture of the Naga people. The tribal people have their own traditional chief called as the Angh. There is a wooden structure in the village which was made in the honor of people and events. The structure is twelve feet in width and eight feet in height and is said to be a heavenly edifice constructed by the angels. It has beautiful statues of human beings and other living beings. Several memorial stones can also be seen outside the Chief’s palace. It is also seen that the Shangnyu tribe shared a cordial and friendly relation with the Ahom kings of Assam in the past years.
