History

Mon has an interesting history and there are many local tourist spots. This is an unspoiled destination. Mon is the hometown of the famous Konyak Nagas, and they are called "the violent headhunters with tattoos on their faces". History shows that most of the inhabitants of the Mon ethnic group come from Lower Burma. The Kingdom of Meng was established in 573 by the two Meng brothers, Prince Samara and Prince Wimara, and this land was named “Meng” from this. For centuries, this kingdom prospered peacefully before the Burmese dynasty. The people of Meng are very talented and skilled. Later, it was occupied by Burma. The Mon people were oppressed, persecuted, and massacred. Many pregnant women were killed. They fled south to the Daneserin Province of Myanmar and east to Thailand.

Facts & Culture

The Meng district of Nagaland is full of diversity and uniqueness, and Longwa Village is one of the best examples. The surrounding area has the largest hectares. The uniqueness of Longwa is that the villagers have dual nationalities, one from India and the other from Myanmar. There are approximately 27 Konyak villages on the Myanmar side. The village is located in Meng County, 42 kilometers from the main town of Meng. It also has many interesting sightseeing spots. Another interesting fact about this town is that the Indo-Myanmar border passes through this town, dividing the chief's house in half, half in India and half in Myanmar. The boss is also named Ange. He has 60 wives and governs more than 70 villages. Villagers can move and roam freely across the border without a visa. Some families even have kitchens in Myanmar and bedrooms in India. Some young residents of this village also joined the Burmese army. Longwa is a quiet and peaceful place with hospitable Naga people.
