History

Dagadusheth Halwai, the temple's founder, was a trader, businessman, and sweet-maker who also founded the temple. He is originally from Karnataka but has lived in Pune for many years. However, after his kid died from an epidemic, he and his wife went into a deep melancholy, and their Guru Shri Madhavnath Maharaj urged them to build a Ganesh temple as a way to cure their grief. In 1893, the temple's construction was completed. Dagdusheth's close buddy Lokmanya Tilak was a prominent leader and a contemporary of Lokmanya Tilak. Initiating a Ganesh celebration at the temple, he went on to make it a historic occasion. The two marble sentinels, Jay and Vijay, guard the magnificent temple, drawing throngs of devotees from near and far. The temple was built in such a way that the Ganesha deity can be viewed from the street. The idol is 7.5 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Nearly 8 kg of gold was included in the design to further enhance its radiance. Regular offerings of cash and gold, as well as coconuts, were made by temple devotees.
