History

The giant Shivaringa of the Badaviringa Temple is housed in a small stone room. There is a single opening in front of the chamber for followers to enter. A notable interesting thing about the design of the stone chamber is the lack of a ceiling. During the day, sunlight flows through the ceiling openings, flooding Shivaringa with light. Shiva linga has a large circular base tapering towards the exit, also known as Pranala. The base of Shiva Linga stands on the waterbed. This is because the shrine is always filled with water while the canal runs through it. According to believers, Shiva's base represents the arrival of the sacred Ganges on Earth, and its flow is controlled by Lord Shiva, so it is submerged.
