History

1. The gallery: The heritage centre marks the museum itself as one of the most attractive places to see. Decorated around an area of 4 acres, the displays are completely dedicated to aeronautic structures. These public displays are divided between two halls. In the first hall, one can get to see everything about the evolution of aeronautics, aviation and aerospace engineering.Starting from the 1940’s, the hall displays the journey of the Indian Air force through various charts. There is a special dedicated area called the museum’s wall of fame where the prominent achievements of HAL have been put on display. Whereas, in the second hall, one can get to see real models of various old and new aircrafts, their parts, engines, and much more. Included in these aircrafts are various MIG’s, fighter planes and helicopters. Each of these displays  depict the defence planes used by the Indian air force till now. The models of Kirat, an antique Canberra bomber plane and Marut, a MIG 21, are among the most popular at the gallery hall2. Simulators: If you are in for a virtual simulation of an aircraft, this is your chance to witness a basic but interactive simulator game. It will give you an almost real-life experience of flying in the air. The visitors can get a real time experience that pilots and aircrew witness during flight time. This is one of the most sought after displays at the heritage centre.3. Air traffic controller tower: If you have seen enough action movies, there is a chance that you might have come across the terms, air traffic control tower. This is the work station for the officials who control the movement, landing and take off, of various planes. It is natural why it could not be left out while displaying the achievements of the aerospace sector in India. This display will give you all the information about the working of the aviation industry and how matters are handled at one such tower to keep things under control. Visitors can get an enriching experience by witnessing the working of the tower and how things are managed.4. Sustainability development park: This is yet another section of the heritage site which will be vastly entertaining and educational. You can get to know a lot about sustainability and preservation while you are here. Commonly explained mechanisms include the use of solar energy and its practical applications, use of turbines to generate power and more about biogas.Another remarkable section of this area is a library which is stacked with endless volumes on aerospace and books relating to science and history. If you wish to get something memorable for your loved ones, a souvenir shop in this section will be the perfect place to buy some. Few other features of the park include a herbal garden, children’s play area, an orchidarium and an aeromodelling club.
