History

Ahmedabad founder AhmedmShah built Fort Bhadra in 1411 AD. The name of this fort comes from the famous Bhadrakali Temple nearby. Legend has it that the fortress was once visited by the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, and blessed Sultan of the prosperity of the city. A fascinating fortress with 14 towers or minarets, eight gates, and two large openings is an architectural wonder. This impressive fortress was used as a court during the reign of Ahmed Shah. On the eastern side of the majestic fortress, a historic gate called Teen Darwaza was built as an entrance to the Royal Square called Maidan shah. It was an open area with some dates and palm trees that served as a venue for royal games and royal processions. This magnificent part of the city is home to the Royal Palace, the beautiful Nagina Baugh, Maidan shah, and the Royal Ahmed Shah's mosque.
