The caves have been cut from the northern slope of a hill and have three levels. This cave complex is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India and the earliest caves date back to around the 6th century CE. Although a few elements inside the caves, such as the pillared halls, show Buddhist or Jain influences, the sculptures are dedicated to the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara. The principal deity in the caves is Anantasayana Vishnu (Vishnu in a reclining position).
