History

Lucknow's history may be traced back to the Suryawanshi dynasty of ancient India. This is high land near the Gomti river. At that time it was called Lakshmanpur. In 1720, the great Mughal emperor began to appoint Nawab. In 1732, Muhammad Amir Sadat Khan was appointed Governor of Awad, Lucknow is one of the main provinces of the region. It was at that time that the powerful Nawab dynasty changed the history of this unknown place. Under Nawab’s rule, Lucknow flourished in an unprecedented way. After 1755, Lucknow advanced by leaps and bounds under the rule of the fourth generation Nawab AsafudDaula. The British came to India and Lucknow became their administrative capital. There were many uprisings by Indian militants during the British rule, and many terrible events left bad memories in Lucknow. However, after independence, Lucknow was declared by the Indian government as the capital of Uttar Pradesh.

Lucknow stands on the banks of the Gomti River and is considered one of the best cities in India . The golden city of the east has retained its fascinating old-world charm, emotional warmth, courtesy, and elegant lifestyle. This city is famous for being the center of poetry, courtly behavior, and Urdu writing and one can witness all this during the Lucknow Festival which takes place from November to December each year. One can learn about the Nawabi style, Ganga Jamuna etiquette, Mughlai dishes, and chikankari (type of embroidery) crafts. Fun activities like cockfighting, youth festivals, theater competitions, Ekka competitions, hang gliding, vintage car rally, boating, and other similar country games are part of this festival and create the atmosphere of the Nawab era. This festival is quite popular with foodies, offering a variety of Nawabi lip licking delicacies including kebabs, parathas, non-veg options, and kesaria doodh. Lucknow contains exceptional architectural examples. In the middle is the Mughal portal Rumi Darwaza. Another important place is the Bara Imambara shrine, visited by a large number of tourists. Nearby is the magnificent Hussainabad Victorian Clock Tower, built-in 1881 as a victory column. Lucknow Zoo is also known as the Prince of Wales Zoo, The Lucknow State Museum is the largest and oldest museum in Uttar Pradesh. Begam Hazrat Mahal Park is another marvel built in 1962 to commemorate Awad Begum Hazrat Mahal, who rebelled against Great Britain in the 1857 uprising. Lucknow has flourished in all aspects, including poetry, dance, music, and more.
