History

Secunderabad is generally considered to be the twin city of Hyderabad. It is named after Sikandar Jah and is about 7.7 kilometers from Hyderabad. Before becoming a part of Nizam Hyderabad, the regions around the city were ruled by several rulers . After Nizam Assaf Ja II was defeated by the British East India Company, Secunderabad became a British cantonment. In 1803, the third Nizam Nizam Sikandar Jah in Hyderabad changed the name of Ulwul to Secunderabad in memory of him.

The modern Secunderabad had come directly under the control of the British and so many of the buildings reflect the British architecture. There are a number of places to visit here. The Golkonda Fort, one of the most famous in India is located at the top of the 120 mm hill. It has several palaces and houses, at night, a show of light and sound takes one to the glorious history of Golconda. The stunning Birla Temple built in 1976, is dedicated to the Lord of Vishnu in the form of Sri Venkateshwara. This temple has Utah (hates) a combination of the architectural style of South India. The complex of Birla Mandir has a temple dedicated to Buddha, it also houses shrines, dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Lakshmi, and Lord Brahma.190-year-old Ujjaini Mahakali Temple, dedicated to the goddess Mahakali is another attraction. Secunderabad has many stores that sell wedding costumes, so it is famous for wedding shopping. The Secunderabad food is famous for Mughlai, Deccani, and Hyderabadi cuisine. You can also find interesting telegu dishes in its cuisine. Some of the popular food dishes are Lamb Kofta Curry, Hyderabadi Biryani, Dum Ka kheema, Kali Mirch Passendey, Raw Banana Curry, Ghee Rice, Phirni, Dil Khush.
