History

The name Bhubaneswar is derived from Tribhubaneswar, which literally means the Lord of the Three Worlds (Eeswar) (Tribhuban), referring to Shiva. Together with the old city, Bhubaneswar today is often portrayed as Ekamra Kshetra (temple city). Although the modern city of Bhubaneswar was only officially established in 1948, the history of the current city and its surrounding areas can be traced back to the 3rd century BC. C. Before. It combines Hindu, Buddhism, and Jain traditions and has the best temple in Kalinga(Odisha). Not only is the splendor in terms of architecture and infrastructure, but this place has also been given a green forest canopy, making it a haven for the reckless spirit of your exploration and the beasts of the wilderness.

Bhubaneswar has been known as the city of temples for the numerous shrines it houses. The cultural heritage of the city is distinctive in the architecture of the temples. The temples ranging from 3rd-century bc to 16th century A.D dot this ancient town.  The most famous attractions here are the Udaigiri and the Khandagiri Jain Caves dating back to the 1st century B.C. Ratnagiri the famous Buddhist Excavation site is another important tourist place here. Lingaraja temple is the oldest temple here. Dhauligiri the Shanti stupa of the Buddhists is one of the popular places to visit in the city.Parshurameshwara temple is an excellent example of craftsmanship in Bhubaneshwar. The most important are Mukteshwar Temple, Nanadan Kanan Zoological park, Udaigiri and Khandagiri caves, Odisha state museum, Yogini Temple at Hirapur Bindu Sagar lake, Dhaulagiri hills, and many more. The city has several natural wonders like Bindu Sagar lake, Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary, and the hot water spring of Atri. The city has numerous parks for nature lovers. The city's cultural history includes the well-known Odissi dance style.
