Ratnagiri

History

Ratnagiri is located in the southwest part of Maharashtra, on the coast of the Arabia sea. It is surrounded by beautiful Sahyadri ranges hills. Once it was the administrative capital of Bijapur rulers. It is also believed that the Pandavas performed their pilgrimage in 13 was established in the adjacent territory of the district of Ratnagiri and when the Pandava and Kaurava had the famous Kurukshetra war, the king of this Veevat Ray region had accompanied them there. . A strong was built during the Bijapur dynasty and strengthened at 1670 by Maratha King Shivaji, located in a promontory near the port. He arrived under the control of Kings Satara in 1731. Ratnagiri is rightly called a jewel mine. More than 85% of the terrestrial surface in the Ratnagiri district is mountainous. All the rivers of the district originate in the ranges of Sahyadri and flow from east to west and blend into the Arabian Sea. It has a sea coast of 167 km long that contains many beaches, packages, and fortresses. 180 km Long Sahyadri Hill Range, contains hills, hills fortresses, wildlife, and many panoramic beauties. The fort here also has an old lighthouse incorporated in 1867.
