History

Khajuraho is a historic city in northern India's Madhya Pradesh. It served as the capital of King Chandra, who reigned over the Bundel Khand State. Khajuraho has a reputation as an important cultural hub, the presence of 35 Hindu and Jain temples makes it one of India's most important historical places. Muslim historian Abu Rihan Alberuni called it the "City of the Gods". Khajuraho is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The mention of several temples and ascetics is done by Ibn Battuta who visited Khajuraho. Sikander Lodi destroyed most of the temples in 1495. The city turned completely insignificant in the 16th century but was later rediscovered by British military persons C.J Franklin and T. S Burt in the 18th century.

Facts & Culture

The art of this small town is deeply rooted in all its buildings and is a classic example of the finest Indian cultural and artistic heritage. The best part about Khajuraho is that although dozens of predators tried to destroy the entire complex, they never succeeded, even if they managed to reduce the number of temples and caves to 25, and when they were created It is a staggering 85. 

 Most of the temples in Khajuraho were built between 950 and 1050 AD and belong to Hinduism or Jainism. The most famous is Kandariya Mahadeo, built in the early 11th century, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The more or less contemporary Laksmana temple was built by King Danga in 954 AD. C. to celebrate its independence from the ruler of Gurjara Pratihara, and its design and appearance are similar to those of Kandariya Mahadeo. The same is true for the Visvanatha Temple (around AD 1002) designed by Sutradhara Chhichchha. Other famous temples on the site include the single towers Caturbhuja and Vamana, the small Matulunga, and the simpler rectangular Parshvanatha Jain temple, with its unique temple added to the back of the building. The last temple in Khajuraho may be Duladeo, which was built according to first-class plans.

Although the city is very popular for its annual dance festival that showcases classical dance forms. Diwari is a famous folk dance, Faag and Alha's songs the popular song sung during the spring harvest season. Lamtera is a popular song used to praise the Lord and thank Him for the abundance that He has poured into us. It sings after harvest.
