History

Palampur is an important city in the Kangra Valley. It is a famous mountain station and was once part of the Jalandhar kingdom. Dr. Jameson who was the superintendent of Botanical Garden introduced the Tea bush from Almora. After that, the tea plantation became a trend in the area and became an attraction for the European tea estate owners except for the (former) Wah tea plantation, the city, which was owned by Nawaab Muhabbat Hayat Khan and his descendants before 1947. Since then, Kangra tea from Palampur has gained international fame. The first prime minister of independent India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru (Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru) visited Palampur in 1941 when it was still British India.
