History

Once ruled by the mighty Chalukyas the city of Rajahmundry is considered the birthplace of Telugu. The city is the cultural center of the state and was part of the Madras Presidential PalaceAfter independence, it was also the headquarters of the Godavari district. It is located on the Godavari river, 400 kilometers from Hyderabad the capital of the state.

Rajahmundry was connected to Vijayawada by rail in 1893. Rajamundry is also the place where several movements that participated in the struggle for freedom developed. Subba Rao from Rajahmundry is one of the six founders of the Indian newspaper Hindu. 

Facts & Culture

Rajahmundry, also known as Rajamahendri, is also known as the city of poets and artists. It earned the reputation of being a  cultural center in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh. The city houses many historical temples and scenic places. The city is also an avenue for the growth of science and technology and hosts several conferences. Rajahmundry also has many temples within the limits of the city.

Some of them are popular worship centers, which attract numerous devotees year after year. The Sri Kotilingshwara temple and the temple Sripa Bala Tripura Sundari are the main examples of such. The ISKCON Temple, also known as Gowthami Ghat, is another important pilgrimage center for devotees. Some other tourist spots are Papi Hills with gushing waterfalls, greenery, and chirping birds, the village of Kadiyapulanka which is a delight for flowers lovers. Nearby places to see include the scenic Araku Valley and many other exciting sites.
