The Pamban Bridge is also associated with the legend and is believed to have been built in a sanctuary called Pamban. Pamban is the place where Lord Rama dropped an arrow to the ground and drew water to quench the thirst of Goddess Sita. The interesting thing about the bridge is that even ships can pass under the bridge while other vehicles run on the bridge. The central part of the Pamban Bridge was designed by German engineer Scherzer. This part is opened for ships and boats to pass under the bridge. Despite decades of change, the Pamban Bridge is still sturdy, not only serving as a junction between Rameswaram Island and the mainland but also experiencing and admiring its magnificent structure.
