History

As per a legend, Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti once wanted to use the water of the lake which he was denied. But he was finally given a cup of water and when the cup was full, the lake water miraculously dried. People asked to return the water, and the saint did so gracefully. Since then, Moinuddin Chishti (saint) has had various followers. Lake Anasargar was built by building a dam on the Luni or Ravanavari rivers. The lake consists of a catchment area built with the help of locals. Lake Anasagar stretches for 13 km and is the largest lake in Ajmer, with a maximum depth of 4.4 m and can store approximately 4.75 million cubic meters of water. The lake also houses the Baladaris and Pavilion, built by Shah Jahan in 1637.
