Amarnath Cave is famous for Lord Shiva Linga (Symbol oF Shiva) made of ice that is stated to develop and decrease with the levels of the moon, attaining its top at some time in the summer season. About 400,000 people visit the holy shrine during the 45-day Shravani Mela in July-August, coinciding with the Hindu holy month of Shravan. Devotees travel and hike towards the shrine in massive numbers from June to August, with the pilgrimage excursion famously called 'Amarnath Yatra', which starts from Chandanwari.
