Located in the quiet city of Jammu, the Bahu Fortress is an ancient fortress in the city of Jammu. From Bahu Fortress, one can get a panoramic view of the rumbling Tawi River as the fortress rises high above the plateau. The structure of the fort is 325 meters (1,066 feet) above sea level and has thick sandstone walls made of lime and brick mortar. There are eight octagonal towers or turrets connected by thick walls. The Mahakali Temple is a famous Shakti temple built in a fort in the 8th century. Made of white marble on a raised platform 1.2 meters high. The Bahu Fortress is also famous for the Bahu Mela during the Navaratri era when a large number of pilgrims visit the temple. Below the fort is Bagh e bahu, a Mughal-style garden overlooking the city of Jammu. It is a very popular spot for tourists and reflects the rich history and culture of Jammu and Kashmir.
