The Nam Phake village is the largest of the Tai-Phake villages of Assam. All of the people in this village are Buddhist in religion. The village folk speak a dialect similar to the language in Thailand and still follow the traditional customs and dress code of the great Tai race.The Nam Phake village in Nahorkatia is home to small population of the Tai Phakes community. The Tai is a generic name denoting a great branch of Mongoloid population of Asia. The Tai people are mainly concentrated in the Indu-Chnese peninsula. The resent habitat of the Tai people extends from Assam in the west to Kwnangsi and Hainan in the east and from the interior of Yunnan in the north of the southern-most extremity of Thailand in the south.The striking factor of the Nam Phake village is their claim that police have not entered its premises. Its shows how disciplined and well behaved the people of this village are. Any dispute is settled among the people by the monks. The people are not also dependent on modern medical facilities. They rely on herbal method of curing.
