It is a commercial town of the district and has many villages and tea gardens. This place has a very tragic history connected with it. An Ahom noble named Kalia had beheaded Prince Nahar near the railway station of the town and from this incident the place came to known as Naharkatia. Today, this town is being explored by many travelers. There are many attractions in this town and also you get to discover many new places near Naharkatia. There are some beautiful villages that are located in close vicinity to the town some of which are Sasoni Gojpuria, Namphake, Merbill Eco Tourism and Gobhuro Dolong.
