History

Bishnupur is the city of temples in the Bankura district of West Bengal. Adi Mara established the Mara dynasty. Jagat Malla, the tenth King of Malla moved his kingdom to Bishnupur. Due to the shortage of stones in Bangladesh, fired clay bricks appeared as a substitute, and Bangladeshi architects discovered a new form of beautiful handicrafts called "terracotta". In the 17th century, the art of terracotta warriors and horses reached its highest point. Raja Jagat Malla and his descendants built many temples made of clay and stone art.

This temple city has its own musical origin, commonly known as "Singing Bishnupur Gharana".
