History
The Pandavas are said to have left Munsiyari on their last journey to heaven. They led a semi-nomadic life and were actively involved in trade with Tibet through the difficult passes of the Himalayas. It took them 2025 days to reach Munsiyari from Tibet, from where they mainly transported salt back. The salt consumed throughout the Himalayan region dates back to the early days of Tibet. It is inhabited primarily by Shauka (referred to by non-Shaucasians as Bhotiya), who are its original natives. The Shauka are the main inhabitants of this place. The Sino-Indian War in 1962 led to the closure of the border between India and Tibet. This led to the end of the prosperous lifeline of the Bhotiyas, whose main occupation was trading with the Tibetans. The decline in trade has led to drastic changes in the way of life of migration (people with livestock that move seasonally
