History

Badrinath is a Hindu holy city and Nagarpanchayat in Chamoli County, Uttarakhand, India. It is one of four places for the pilgrimage to Chardham in India, named for the Badrinath Temple. Badrinath was rebuilt as an important pilgrimage site by Adi Shankar in the 8th century. In the early days, pilgrims used to walk hundreds of miles to visit the Badrinath Temple. Badrinath is also the gateway to various mountaineering expeditions to Nilkantha and other mountains.

In the holy city of Badrinath, most of the residents are Hindus and Jains, so the main religions here are Hinduism and Jainism. The people of Badrinath are pious, have a simple life, and the daily life of the local residents revolves around worship, visits to the Badrinath temple, feasts, and ceremonies. However, some people also follow Buddhism and Islam. The main languages ​spoken are Hindi and Garhwali. Badrinath hosts various colorful markets and festivals such as Juljibi, Thal, Bageshwar, Ganga Dusshera, Basant Panchami, and Batsavitri. Mata Murti ka Mela is a famous bazaar held every September to pay tribute to Lord Badrinath. In addition, people enthusiastically celebrate the large 8-day Badri Kedar Festival.
