History

About 5,000 years ago, Krishna loved and played in Vrndavana and appeared with many gods like the cows that he cared for; his friends from the herd of cows; the lovely milkmaid who spent a long and beautiful night in the woods with him, and all the other plants and creatures. , such as peacocks, parrots, monkeys, trees, vines, and even blades of grass. Vrindavan was established in the 16th and 17th centuries as the result of a clear treaty between Muslim and Hindu emperors. The Bengali saint Caitanya visited Vrindavan and walked through the forest to find the original site of Krishna.

Facts & Culture

Vrindavan is located in Uttar Pradesh, one of the largest states in India, and is one of the holiest places in India. On the Yamuna River, Vrindavan is said to be the place where Lord Krishna grew up. The word "Vrindavan" is derived from the two words "vrinda", which means tulsi (basil), and "van" which refers to woods or forests that may represent Seva Kunj and Nidhivan. Seva Kunj is where Lord Krishna performs Raslila with Gopis and Radha, and Nidhivan is the resting place of Krishna and Radha. Hindus consider it to be an important pilgrimage destination. It has about 5000 temples. Bankey Bihari Temple is one of the most important and vibrant temples. Govind Dev Temple was built by Raja Man Singh in 1590 and is now empty. Its upper level was demolished during the time of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The history of Rangaji Temple dates back to 1851 and is a mixture of various architectural styles. Janmashtami in July / August was celebrated as Lord Krishna's birthday, and thousands of devotees from all over the country gathered at this place. Holi is also celebrated with the same enthusiasm. Vrindavan has a festival almost every day, but the main festivals include Govardhan Puja, Guru Poornima, Holi, Govardhan Puja, Jhulan Yatra (Swing Festival), Radhashtami and Basant Panchami.
