History

Sarnath is an important place where ancient Indian saints lived. After Bodh Gaya became enlightened, the Buddha went to Sarnath to reunite with his monks in Sarnath. Said the Buddha and his five companions. This is his first sermon. The Buddha spent the next rainy season in Sarnath and the number of saints gathered there rose to 60. After the Buddha, many elite monks lived in Sarnath. Approximately 500 monks study in the Hinayana at the Learning Center in Saryeyuan. In 389 BC, King Ashoka visited Sarnath and built many pagodas there. He built a pillar with a national symbol. At the end of 3 AD, Sarnath became a center of art, culture, and education. At the end of the 12th century, Turkish invaders looted the place, took building materials, and destroyed many monuments. Sarnath is also the birthplace of many Jain monks and the 11th generation of Teerthankar. A 2200-year-old pillar stands at Kalyanak in Shri Shreyansnath Bhagwan. The Buddha mentioned Isipatana as one of the four pilgrimage sites most frequently visited by his devout followers. The wildlife park in Sarnath is a forest donated by King Benares so that the deer can run around undisturbed. Sarnath comes from Saranganat, known as the "King of the Deer".

Sarnath is a famous tourist attraction eight miles northeast of Varanasi and the birthplace of Hinduism, Buddha, Jainism, and other cultures. Sarnath is the place where Buddha Shakyamuni first taught the Dharma. The Ashoka Pillar marks Ashoka's visit to Sarnath. Another pillar stands in front of Ashoka, marking the place where the Buddha preached for the first time. Buddha statues in Thai temples are the main attraction of Sarnath.  Sarnath is also an important place of pilgrimage for Jainism. The Sarnath Archaeological Museum has collections of cultural relics from the 3rd to 12th centuries. The Tibetan Temple is a Tibetan-style temple. The statue of Sakyamuni Buddha is enshrined in the temple. There is a  prayer wheel outside the temple, when you spin the wheel, you will find a roll of paper peeling off the wheel. The scroll contains prayers. Mulagandhakuti Vihara is the main attraction of Sarnath. This is a tall tower temple 110 feet tall. This is the place where Buddha lived when he visited Sarnath. Some of the attractions near this temple are the bluestone Buddha path and the small lake that borders the park. There is also a small zoo near the temple. The Bodhi tree was cut from the original Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. There is a Sri Lankan monastery near the tree.
