Facts & Culture
Located in the heart of Uttar Pradesh, Kushinagar is a fascinating tourist attraction 188 kilometers from Ayodhya and easily accessible from all over the country. It is a famous Buddhist pilgrimage related to the life of Lord Buddha. The place is also associated with Mahavir, the founder of Jainism, and the 24th generation of Jainism, Lord Tirthankara. There are about ten monasteries in this place. Japanese temples are a must-see in Kushinagar.
The main tourist attraction here is the ancient Great Prana Nirvana Temple, which is one of the holiest places for Buddhists. There is a 6.2 meter long Buddha statue in the temple, and the reclining Buddha is on the right.
The museum exhibits numerous archaeological excavations that have been found in Kushinagar. These include sculptures, postage stamps, coins, banners, antiques, and statues. The museum's most striking feature is the Gandhara-style stucco Buddha statue. Visitors can visit the Ramabhar stupa, which marks the site of the Buddha's cremation. The pagoda is located near a manicured garden lined with palm trees and is about 15 meters high. Another notable site is the Temple of the Sun, built in the Gupta period (319 550 AD), which contains a beautiful statue of the sun god carved from precious sapphires. It is a historic city known for its magnificent pagodas and temples.
