History

Ayodhya one of the seven sacred towns of India is located on the right bank of the Saryu river. It was called 'Saket' in ancient times. This city is the birthplace of Lord Rama according to the epic "Ramayana". For centuries, it was the capital of the descendants of the Surya dynasty, of which Lord Rama was the most famous king. Ayodhya was called 'Kaushaldesa' in those times. It was ruled by the most virtuous kings and was a prosperous town. According to ancient Hindu Texts " Atharva Veda" - Ayodhya was built by Gods and blessed to be prosperous like paradise. The city has great relevance for the Jains as well because five of the Jain ' Tirthankaras" were born in this holy city. the city saw the rise of Buddhism during the Mauryan Dynasty with many Buddhist temples and monuments.

Ayodhya is an important pilgrimage center, about 134 kilometers from Lucknow. In the twin cities of Faizabad and Ayodhya, temples and mosques coexist in the splendor of all buildings. Saryu ghats bring a profound spiritual experience to live here. The famous places to visit in Ayodhya are Nageshwarnath Temple, Tulsi Samarak Bhawan, Kanak Bhawan, Hanuman Garhi, Dasrath Bhavan, Mani Parbat, etc. The Ayodhya people are very religious and adhere to their cultural traditions. Fairs and festivals are an important symbol of Ayodhya. Ramnavmi is the most important festival celebrated in the city and is related to Lord Rama's birthday anniversary. Shravan Jhula Mela is another famous festival where the idols of Ram and Sita are carried on a swing along with the accompanying hordes of devotees. There are many fairs held here like the Parikrama Fair, Saryu Snan, and Balark Tirth Mela, etc.
