History

Kailashhar is the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Tripura located on the outskirts of Bangladesh. Its history is linked to Unakoti, and it is well-known for its pictures etched in stone and granite during the 7th and 9th centuries AD. A Shiva disciple who started Tripurabda (Tripuri calendar) prayed for Lord Shiva in the village of Chhambulnagar on the bank of the Mao River. The Chhambulnagar mentioned in Rajamala is speculated to be near Unakoti. The prince prayed for Mahadeva in Unakoti. Kailashahar may be the legendary Chhambulnagar. Some devotees think Hal (Shiva) resides on Kailash. As a result, this location was given the name Kailashhar, which was eventually shortened to Kailashhar. In the 7th century AD, King Adi Dharmapha of Tripura ruled there. He performed Yagna with pomp and joy.
