History

Warangal was originally called Orugallu, which means "a stone", and was ruled by the Kakatiya dynasty. The entire town is believed to be carved from a single rock. The Kakati people built many monuments in the state, including iconic forts, gateways, and temples. Marco Polo also described the city of Warangal in detail during his visit to the country.

Facts & Culture

Warangal is a heritage town and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Warangal Fort and the Temple of Thousand Pillars are World Heritage sites recognized by UNESCO. Bhadrakali Temple and Padmakshi Temple are other famous destinations of various religions. Bhadrakali Lake, Waddepally Lake, and Dharmasagar Lake are famous tourist waters. Most of its attractions, including the Ramappa Temple, Gamble Temple Complex, Warangal Fort, and Kush Mahal, are only from the Kakatiyan period. They used a piece of rock to build a monument, which is why the city was previously known as Orugalu, which means "carved out of a piece of rock." The city of Warangal has good road and rail connections. Hinduism and Muslims prevail in this area, so all Hindu festivals are celebrated with enthusiasm. Besides these Bonalu, Bathukamma, Kakatiya, Shakambari and Sammakka festivals, Sarakka Jatra are special festivals in the region.
