History

Nizamabad is a region of Telangana State, known for its rich cultural heritage and the rule of the great Nizams. Nizamabad became part of the princely state of Hyderabad in 1724 and remained part of the Nizam rule until 1948. After India's independence, the Indian army annexed Hyderabad and ended Nizam's rule in Operation Polo. In 1876, when the Hyderabad region was reorganized by the then Prime Minister, Nizamabad became a separate region. The city is named after the second Nizam ul Mulk in Hyderabad. During the last Nizam rule in 1923, the Nizam Sagar Dam was built across the Manjira River to irrigate Nizamabad District.
