History

Nalgonda is a small town in Telangana, with a rich and deep-rooted history and equally fascinating cultural heritage. Sufficient evidence unearthed in Yeleswaram proves that its history can be traced back to the Paleolithic period. Nalgonda also showed traces of Neolithic culture by discovering hanging stones and other similar objects. The name of the city comes from the combination of the two words "Nalla" and "Konda" in Telugu, meaning "Black Mountain". In fact, the city of Nalgonda today has rich and diverse cultural and religious traditions, reflecting the glorious past of the city when it was ruled by different Hindu and Muslim rulers at different times. It was mainly established during the Maurya Dynasty, but the trade with the Roman Empire began in the Satawahana Dynasty. Nalgonda was originally named Nilagiri, but now it is blessed with the footprints left by various kingdoms and dynasties.
