History

Rinchenpong and Kaluk are about 5,576 feet above sea level and are new maps of the tourist map of West Sikkim. It is located in West Sikkim, about 123 kilometers west of Gangtok, 47 kilometers south of Jiaxing, and close to Karuk Village. It is located at an altitude of 5,576 feet (1,700 meters). There was a historic battle between Sikkim's Chogyal (king) army and the invading British army near the city. The people of the Lepcha tribe used a mixture of unknown herbs to poison the only source of water, the lake (local term: Pokhri). As a result, more than half of the British troops were killed, preventing the British invasion and reaching an agreement. To this day, this lake is still poisonous and is popularly called bikhpokhri (poisonous lake).
