History

Ravangla or Rawangla or Ravongla is a tourist town with an altitude of 8,000 feet in the South Sikkim district of Sikkim State, India. It is connected to other major cities in the state by national highways, between Palin and Gangtok. It is the starting point for trekking to the Mae Nam Wildlife Sanctuary. It is about 65 kilometers away from Gangtok, the capital of the state, and about 120 kilometers away from Siliguri, West Bengal. The name is derived from the Bhutia language. "Ra" means wild sheep, "vong" means breeding, and "la" means a passport.
