Facts & Culture

Laqin City is about 27 kilometers from Zhongtang and is surrounded by beautiful valleys. Unlike other places in India, Lachin has its own unique form of local self-government called "Dzumsa". Each family is a member of this traditional administrative system that is in charge of managing and organizing activities in the city. This city is the base of the Jopta Valley and Gurudongma Lake. The mountain stream runs through the valley and the village, with deep streams. On the other side of the valley are towering pine trees and snow-capped peaks. There are at least 40 different azaleas in this reserve. Kangchenjunga National Park is about 107 kilometers from the city, but it is worth a visit. The Zem Glacier is one of the many attractions in the park. You can see a variety of wild animals such as snow leopards, musk deer, clouded leopards, red pandas, etc. This place is also home to the oldest monastery in Sikkim, which was built in 1858. The beginning of the Laqing temple was not very large, with no more than 6 monks, but it was rebuilt with financial help from the Sikkim government. Lachen Monastery is also known as Lachen Gompa. The architectural style is a typical Tibetan style. Houses, no more than 200 houses, the village is perfect for backpackers and adventurers who want to explore alternative destinations. The village is also home to Lachenpas, the Sikkim community.
