History
Dzuluk or Zuluk or Jhuluk or Jaluk is a small village located in the rugged terrain of the lower Himalayas in the eastern Indian state of Sikkim at an altitude of approximately 10,000 feet (3,000 meters). It used to be a transit point on the historical Silk Road from Tibet to India. Even decades ago, the Silk Road connecting Lhasa (Tibet) and Kalimpong were in use until China invaded Tibet. It is usually used as a base for overnight accommodation by merchants who travel to Tibet via Jelepla ("La" means mountain pass).
Facts & Culture
Dzuluk is surrounded by wild forests, some of which are completely unspoiled. It is not uncommon to see deer, wild dogs, Himalayan bears, and red pandas. According to reports, some tigers have also been found in the area. You can also see various birds, such as blood pheasants, Himalayan pheasants, Kali pheasants, snow pheasants, etc. During the summer months, the area and surrounding hills are covered with thousands of azaleas in full bloom. Since all kinds of rhododendrons can be seen here, Zuluk has been colorful in these months.
This place is a relatively unconventional and emerging destination in East Sikkim. Today, it is rapidly becoming a new tourist destination. Because of the magnificent view of the eastern Himalayas including Kanchenjunga, it is of great tourist importance. 14 km away from Zuluk, the Thambi View Point offers a panoramic view of the entire Mt. Khangchendzonga range. Adventure lovers can enjoy the Nathang Valley famous for skiing. Kupup lake or elephant lake is a great site to visit. The Zuluk valley has immense natural beauty at places like Nathula pass, Kalpokhari lake, Tukla Valley, Lungthung, Tsomgo lake, Nag temple, and Old baba Mandir. Zuluk can be visited throughout the year.
